Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has signed a landmark agreement with Mexico’s federal government to advance the Rosarito desalination plant, a critical project aimed at addressing water scarcity in Baja California. The initiative underscores the region’s commitment to sustainable water solutions amid growing demand and climate challenges.

The Rosarito plant will utilize seawater desalination technology to provide a reliable source of potable water for urban and industrial use, reducing dependence on the Colorado River and other stressed freshwater sources. This project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen water resilience in northern Mexico, ensuring long-term supply for communities and economic development.

By partnering with federal authorities, Baja California aims to accelerate construction timelines and secure funding for advanced desalination infrastructure. The agreement also reflects a shared vision for environmentally responsible water management, integrating modern technology to minimize energy consumption and environmental impact.

Once operational, the Rosarito desalination plant is expected to become a cornerstone of Baja California’s water security strategy, supporting sustainable growth and safeguarding resources for future generations.
