During the fifth session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministers Responsible for Water in Jeddah, Bahrain’s Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, held strategic meetings with his Saudi and Somali counterparts to deepen collaboration in water resource management—placing a strong emphasis on desalination technologies.
In talks with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdulrahman AlFadhley, both sides explored opportunities to expand the use of advanced desalination systems and water reuse solutions. The ministers highlighted the importance of innovation in water production and distribution, aligning efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals and regional water security strategies.
Minister Humaidan also met with Somalia’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame, to discuss bilateral cooperation in developing water networks and enhancing desalination and storage capabilities. The two nations agreed to form a joint technical team to explore future projects focused on desalination, groundwater management, and water quality improvement.
These meetings underscore Bahrain’s commitment to leveraging its expertise in desalination and sustainable water infrastructure to support regional resilience amid growing climate and population pressures.
