The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) concluded the U.S.-Saudi Water Summit 2025 in Palo Alto, California, spotlighting the Kingdom’s global leadership in desalination technologies and sustainable water solutions. Held at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley, the summit brought together experts from both nations to explore cutting-edge innovations in water resource management.

In his opening remarks, SWA President Eng. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkarim emphasized the Kingdom’s transformation into a global hub for desalination, driven by visionary projects and advanced technologies. He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s record-breaking achievements in operational efficiency, energy reduction, and environmental stewardship in desalination and water transmission.

The summit featured dynamic panel discussions and technical presentations, with a strong focus on desalination and water reuse. Saudi and U.S. experts shared insights into next-generation desalination systems, including low-energy reverse osmosis, hybrid technologies, and smart monitoring networks. These sessions underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in addressing water scarcity.

Delegates also explored opportunities for collaboration in digital transformation, investment, and entrepreneurship within the desalination sector. Visits to leading U.S. institutions such as NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Xylem, and Google provided the Saudi delegation with exposure to pioneering research and technologies that could enhance desalination performance and scalability.

A key highlight of the summit was the signing of eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between SWA and prominent U.S. entities, aimed at fostering joint research, technology transfer, and capacity building in desalination and water reuse.

The event reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in desalination, showcasing its strategic efforts to secure water sustainability for future generations.
