Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding seawater desalination efforts as part of a long-term strategy to address the nation’s growing water needs. During a recent meeting at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouly emphasized the importance of closely monitoring the progress of desalination initiatives and accelerating the implementation of new projects using advanced technologies.
Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbiny presented a comprehensive roadmap for desalination development, outlining both immediate and long-term goals. The plan includes urgent projects to be completed by 2030 and a broader vision extending to 2050. El-Sherbiny highlighted the ministry’s focus on leveraging modern technologies and fostering partnerships with both domestic and international private sector players to localize desalination-related industries and reduce production costs.
The minister also reviewed ongoing and completed projects across several coastal governorates, including the Red Sea, Matrouh, and South Sinai. Prime Minister Madbouly stressed the need to expedite these efforts and ensure the timely delivery of operational facilities.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Deputy Minister of Housing, the head of the Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency, and senior representatives from Arab Contractors, a leading construction firm.
