Libya’s Ministry of Industry and Minerals has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hungary’s Rotary International Co. to collaborate on major infrastructure investments. While the agreement covers a range of industrial development initiatives, a key priority is addressing Libya’s growing water scarcity through advanced desalination technology.
The partnership aims to introduce modern, energy-efficient desalination systems to secure sustainable water supplies for coastal cities and industrial zones. These projects are expected to reduce reliance on groundwater, improve resilience against drought, and support economic growth by ensuring reliable water access for manufacturing and communities.
Officials highlighted that desalination will play a central role in Libya’s long-term strategy to stabilize essential services and attract foreign investment. The MoU also includes provisions for knowledge transfer, technical training, and the integration of environmentally friendly solutions.
This move signals Libya’s commitment to tackling its water crisis while fostering industrial modernization through international cooperation.
