ACCIONA has introduced a pioneering digital solution aimed at transforming the sustainability and efficiency of reverse osmosis (RO) desalination—one of the most energy-intensive processes in water treatment. The innovation combines two advanced technologies into a Dual-Model Optimization System:

  • ACRRO®: A simulation-based model developed in-house that uses differential equations and optimization algorithms to fine-tune RO rack performance.
  • Insight: An AI-driven tool that continuously adjusts operational parameters using real-time data and machine learning.

Together, these tools enable predictive and adaptive control of desalination operations, reducing energy consumption while maintaining high water output. The system has already been successfully deployed at ACCIONA’s plant in Qatar, with centralized monitoring provided by CECOA, the company’s Water Control Centre in Madrid.

Complementing this innovation, ACCIONA’s Middle East team has also developed:

  • A Turbidity Prediction System using AI to anticipate water quality changes.
  • A Satellite-AI Model to forecast marine hazards like algae blooms and oil spills.

These technologies enhance operational resilience and support smarter, more sustainable water management across ACCIONA’s global portfolio.
